OCHC 14U TB TEAM WINS NEXUS CENTER GRAND OPENING SERIES TOURNAMENT
The OCHC 14U state bound team helped open the Nexus Center in style as part of the "Grand Opening Tournament Series" during the weekend of November 18-20 as the team beat the Saratoga Blue Knights, 7-6 Sunday afternoon in a wild shootout to clinch the Bantam AA Championship.
After finishing 2-1 in the round-robin (including a 3-1 loss) OCHC pulled away in the 3rd period of their semifinal against the Utica Jr. Comets AA team to win by a score of 5-1, setting up a rematch with Saratoga. The teams exchanged goals twice before a tally by Landon Gentile gave OCHC a 3-2 lead late in the second period. Undaunted, the Blue Knights ran off 3 consecutive goals early in the 3rd to take a 5-3 lead with 13:38 to go. OCHC, however, refused to roll over and struck back with 3 consecutive goals of their own, including a power play goal by Jayden Skutnik that gave OCHC a 6-5 lead with 7:37 to go. Saratoga tied the game up two minutes later and it looked like the game was headed to overtime. But with just over a minute to go, defenseman Chad Hull picked up a loose puck in the neutral zone, drove the net, and got the game-winner past the Saratoga goalie with 1:08 to go.
